Teaching overview

Continuing education whilst you are pregnant or have a young child is challenging but we aim to provide the teaching resources and support necessary to pass GCSEs. By providing a teaching environment that is close to the nursery, young parents can study whilst feeling confident that their child is being well looked after. Continuing education is important to build the esteem of young parents and provide them with the skills and qualifications they will require as they develop.

Our teaching aims

We aim to build on work already completed at school, and coursework is requested at an early stage. All students, except those who join us late in Year 11, sit their examinations at the Centre.

Subjects 

We offer many subjects up to GCSE level providing students with the opportunity to go on to further education.

Subjects available up to GCSE level include: 

• English Language
• Mathematics
• Science
• Child Development
• Art and Design
• Citizenship 

 At certificate level we offer: 

• ICT - OCR Nationals/ITQ Level 1 & 2
• AQA Unit Awards
• Science
• Preparation for Working Life

Fitness sessions help tone your muscles before and after the birth of your baby.

We have regular visits from a designated midwife.

Baby weighing takes place on a Wednesday afternoon in the Children's Centre.

Contact with your school

At the first meeting between the prospective student and the Centre's head teacher, information about the student and the work they have completed will be requested. We actively encourage students to stay in touch with their school.
