Nursery Curriculum

Nursery staff Sandra and Tanya

At the Plymouth Centre for Young Parents, we understand the importance of providing a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for babies and toddlers and so we have developed a curriculum that reflects this.

We also understand that parenthood can be a daunting and scary prospect for most new parents so we also offer advice and guidance so that babies and parents develop together.

We incorporate plenty of learning experiences that involve stimulating the babies in our care such as:

  • Group singing and story sessions
  • Music and dance
  • Treasure baskets
  • Textured books and toys
  • Food play - pasta, baked beans and mashed potato!
  • Painting, gluing and making
  • Outdoor activities
  • Plenty of comfort and cuddles

High standards of hygiene when feeding, nappy changing etc. are very important to us.

Before students return to the Centre from maternity leave, a home visit by a Nursery Nurse is arranged so they can talk with the student about the baby’s needs, comforts and routines. This visit can include their parents and the baby’s dad too if the mum wants. Students will be given a booklet in which important information can be recorded and it tells students about all the important things that happen in the nursery like nappy changing procedures.
